Choosing Your Hospital

If you and your GP decide that you need to see a specialist for further treatment, you can now choose where to have your treatment from a list of hospitals or clinics. You might already have experience of a particular hospital or know someone who has, or if you like, your GP can recommend a hospital where you can be treated for your particular speciality. The choice is yours!

The most popular hospitals in the area that patients tend to choose between are:

South Tyneside District Hospital
Queen Elizabeth Hospital
Sunderland Royal Hospital
Newcastle General Hospital
The Royal Victoria Infirmary
Freeman Hospital
Spire Hospital Washington
(formely BUPA)

Government have announced we are moving into the delay phase of #COVID19. This means, if you have a new cough OR a high temperature (37.8 degrees or higher), but generally feel well, you do not need to contact anybody. You do need to self isolate for 7 days.

We expect the NHS to be exceptionally busy in the coming days and weeks. If you have serious symptoms that you cannot manage at home or persist longer than 7 days, please go to NHS 111 online, or call 111 if you cannot go online.
